16 THE A LIST THAT'S "A" FOR ART Catherine D. Anspon reports upon a palmy party. Photography Jenny Antill Clifton. O ne of the most splendid evenings of the social calendar revolves around one storied date in autumn, and it's only for the girls. Since 1990, Another Great Night in November — a bookend to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's big- ticket benefit for the boys, One Great Night in November — has raised funds for the smart, avant-garde, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. This year's Another Great Night came with a few chal- lenges, in the name of the ungentlemanly Hurricane Harvey. After the home of the original hostess, Martha Finger, was damaged by the storm, Leslie Ballard Hull opened up her own casa, and the girls-only party of the year carried on. And it was very all in the family: Hull © folks, Carol and Les Ballard, are staunch museum supporters; she her- self co-founded the CAMH's young patron group. Retailer Tootsies came through as luxury sponsor for the always hotly contested art scavenger hunt, while a well-connected host committee banded together to get the A (as in Art) List to turn out. THE COMPOSITION The evening began as guests paraded through the Hulls' art- and antiques-filled home, designed by Randy Powers and featured in a 2016 cover story in Elle Decor. There was another motive to tour the John Staub classic: to decipher clues for the treasure hunt based on the Hulls' artworks by Dorothy Hood, Chuck Close, Ryan McGinness, Trenton Doyle Hancock, and Aaron Parazette, among others. After an hour, a bell rang, and the crowd adjourned to a tented aerie for a seated dinner by City Kitchen. Rebekah Johnson, go-to designer for CAMH, transformed the space into a palmy setting in keeping with the night's theme, Under the Palms.
