glances around the space, which is fi lled with construction debris, in some cases wittily stacked into niches and cabinets in the former dining room and kitchen to mimic dinner plates. "There's plenty we could do," Ruck says. "We could start peeling to the outside skin of the building. That's a whole other canvas. We're covering every wall, every fl oor, and ceiling. It's a challenge because it does not have a fi nite conclusion." Also novel will be the accompanying works on view at the main house, which showcase Havel's drawings and Ruck's aptitude for sculpture There will be a sound component provided by New Orleans-based artist Jonathan Freilich, who is also a guitarist and composer, with roots in jazz. There will be special lighting effects. When asked about their lighting designer, Ruck laughs and says, "It's us. We'll fi gure that out when we get to it." The can-do artists support themselves via steady gigs in their day jobs — Havel as high school art teacher at St. John's, Ruck as senior project manager overseeing major construction for the University of Houston system, positions they have each held for well over 20 years.
