OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. 16 F inally, Nobu opens next month at The Galleria on the second level of the space vacated by Saks Fifth Avenue, which has moved to the new wing. The 10,000-square-foot location is the second in Texas (the first is in Dallas) for the Japanese restaurant, which debuted in the U.S. in 1994 when actor Robert De Niro asked chef Nobu Matsuhisa to bring his acclaimed cuisine from Japan to New York. Signature dishes include black cod with miso and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño … Shake Shack has opened a third Houston location at 6205 Kirby Drive in Rice Village, in the former la Madeleine space. Settle in at a reclaimed bowling- alley tabletop to try the frozen custard concretes that can only be found at this location: Pie Oh My (vanilla custard with a seasonal pie slice from Fluff Bake Bar) and West U-nicorn (vanilla custard with a unicorn bait cookie from Fluff Bake Bar, strawberry puree, and salted caramel sauce. Also on the menu is the Texas- exclusive Lockhart Link Burger, a cheeseburger topped with Kreuz's Market jalapeño cheese sausage link, pickles, and Shack sauce. Stay tuned, as Shake Shack plans a fourth location in Montrose … New tenants are flocking to the renovated water-pumping station Heights Waterworks at 449 West 19th Street. This summer, vegan food truck Ripe Cuisine opens a brick-and-mortar eatery, with chef and registered dietitian Stephanie Hoban serving fan favorites. In late 2018, the second Houston location of Common Bond Cafe and Bakery opens in the Waterworks, offering flatbreads, salads, tartines, small plates, and desserts. (Yes, the line can be long, but it's worth the wait.) Next will be the Dallas-based coffee shop Ascension (opening July) and another location of Hopdoddy Burger Bar (opening Fall 2018) … T exas Quartet: Whitney Biennial notable Dario Robleto continues his investigations into the mysteries of the human heartbeat — a series spurred by the Mitchell Center and first realized at The Menil Collection in 2014 — with "The First Time, The Heart" at Inman Gallery. An archaeologist of science and history, he once again delves into 19th-century early pulse recordings, aided by a collaboration with Pulitzer-nominated poet Adrian Matejka and Island Press at Washington University, St. Restaurant BUZZ ART NOTES Louis. The latter is the publisher of the showcased 50-print portfolio, a remarkable example of printmaking prowess created with soot and solvent. Hear the artist in conversation with Matejka about the crossover between art and poetry Saturday, May 12, 1 pm, at Inman Gallery (exhibition through May 26) … Identity and New Photo: An artist who meditates on the environment and cultural identity is paired with a collector who makes intuitive abstract images with a camera at Heights space Clarke & Associates. Co-owners Linda Clarke and Gus Kopriva curate the shows for emerging talent Felipe Lopez, and top patron Lester Marks (May 5 –August 24). Just In: Latin American master Carlos Cruz- Diez takes over the Cistern opening May 12, in an immersive kinetic light show (through January 13). Catherine D. Anspon This fall, Benjamin Berg (B&B Butchers & Restaurant) opens a dining concept called Benjamin on the ground floor of the former Texaco building at 1111 Rusk Street, which is now The Star, a luxury 286-unit apartment building … Mexican eatery Blanco Tacos + Tequila opens at The Galleria in the new Galleria VI wing (heading toward Saks Fifth Avenue) this fall. The Arizona-based restaurant by Sam Fox (True Food Kitchen, North Italia) serves updated Mexican classics and house-made margaritas.
