L ike a modern-day explorer, Christian Lacroix has emerged from the fashion jungle with an exotic new wallpaper collection, Histoires Naturelles, that takes inspiration from classical natural history and nature. Panoramic panels and tactile flocked designs make up the collection's six different papers. The most lavish is Jardin des Reves, a dreamlike, fantastical garden on a grand scale. Here, tropical blooms, birds, palms, and giant mushrooms overlay a calm backdrop of blue sky. Other patterns feature birds, highly detailed botanicals, trailing ivy branches, and blossoming pansies. BY REBECCA SHERMAN GOINg INCOgNITO I n a meet-cute worthy of Hollywood, the pair behind the West Coast wallpaper, Abnormals Anonymous, found themselves in a Nashville hotel elevator together. During a three-floor descent, the strangers talked about wallpaper. (Who wouldn't!) It was a twist of fate: Both had always dreamed of designing their own wallpaper line, and sometime later, Abnormals Anonymous was born. There's probably a good story behind company's name, too, but the duo is not divulging. If you must, they urge, call them Henrietta and Paco. It's all very MI5, but secrecy aside, their papers are the real deal. They've reinterpreted historical flora and fauna designs into two-dozen repeating patterns, from golden beetles, grisaille sea beasts, pufferfish, and reptile skeletons,to giraffes and flowers. Naturally, the eco-friendly papers are printed with VOC-free inks. To the trade at Supply, 2204 Lake Austin Blvd., Austin, supplyshowroom.com.
