PHOTOGRAPHY TERESA RAFIDI AND RIC MARTIN. A ward-winning poet and screenwriter Nick Flynn headlined a special two-part event benefitting The Bridge. Philanthropy-minded cinephiles didn't need A.O. Scott or Paul Mazursky to convince them to walk the red carpet into Highland Park Village Theatre for an exclusive Lauren screening of Being Flynn. This adaptation of Brundage at screening the author's memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City starred Paul Dano and Robert De Niro and generated buzz all its own. Free-flowing libations and posh nibbles (plus popcorn for the purists) meant this was not a run-of-the-mill showing; when the house lights resumed, Jay Dunn, president and CEO of The Bridge, moderated a Q&A between Flynn and the audience. Joining in the applause: Thalia Banowsky, Sandy Moore, Roger and Marianne Staubach, Cindy and Donnie Baldwin, Brandy Billings, DeWayne Tallmon, Micah and Carla O'Dell, Erin McFaye, and Patrick Kelly. The next morning, nearly 900 guests converged at The Omni Dallas for Breakfast for the Bridge. A choir from the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts set the tone with a stirring performance, followed by appearances by co-chairs Nancy Cain Marcus and Nelda Cain Pickens. Flynn picked up where he'd left off the evening before, sharing an honest account of his time as a social worker at a Boston homeless shelter, where he unexpectedly reunited with his father. Both events raised much-needed funds to help The Bridge provide food, shelter, recovery services, medical treatment and job training to 1,200 Dallasites. Answering the call: Allison Murphy, Mel Horton, Dodee Crockett, Michael Lunceford, Bobby Lyle, Gary McClung, Gary Lefkof, Tom Karol, Jennifer Sampson, Susan Hoff, and Jan and Fred Hegi.
