letter publisher 14 MISAEL RODRIGUEZ W elcome to 2020! It seems as if 2019 just began, yet already we're looking toward a new year — and a new decade, at that. Around here, we're referring to this bright new era as the New '20s. We first saw the decade referred to that way on the cover of a recent issue of Tatler magazine, and we can't help but adopt it. We're hoping 2020 and the 10 years to come are as over the top and Gatsby-esque as were the radiant Roaring '20s. And what better way to launch into the new decade than to make major PaperCity announcements. This month, Michalene Busico — formerly of the Dallas Morning News, Robb Report, Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times — ushers in a new era at PaperCity as our Dallas editor in chief. Her aesthetic and deep knowledge of food, restaurants, and all things luxury are aligned with our voice. Meanwhile, the energy we've invested in our digital platforms — and the subsequent growth that's followed — has created the need for greater digital authority. Caitlin Clark joins us as Dallas digital editorial director, to harness that growth and continue to craft our digital voice for the city. The Dallas team is complete, and the New '20s will witness the unstoppable march of the magazine — both print and digital — as we show why this city is roaring. Our first issue of the year kicks off with beautiful design as we celebrate the talented interior designers and architects in our community via our coverage of the the PaperCity Design Awards and the largest Texas Design Week to date. In its fifth year, the Design Awards were bigger and better than ever, with more than 250 entries judged by interior experts David Kleinberg (NYC), Thomas Pheasant (Washington, D.C.), Lee Ledbetter (New Orleans), Jay Jeffers (San Francisco), Corey Damen Jenkins (Birmingham and NYC), and Suzanne Kasler (Atlanta). They had the difficult task of selecting 21 winning projects (page 50). PaperCity is proud to partner once again with the NorthPark Ambassadors program. Each year, NorthPark selects a diverse group of civic-minded individuals to spotlight their charities of choice and the important work of those organizations. For this year's special section, our editorial team chose the newly refreshed Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek as the setting for each ambassador's portrait. Thomas Pheasant, one of our esteemed Design Awards judges, recently completed the renovation of this Dallas landmark. Should you need a deeper dive into Pheasant's chic and serene new design of the Mansion's rooms and lobby, we highly recommend booking a post-holiday staycation. Before I sign off for this month, I'll leave you with a few wishes to you from our team as we enter into 2020: Cheers to happy times (and happy hours) with good friends; good health and a successful Whole 30 January (should you partake in the healthy detox as so many of us are); less time on your cell phone and more time connecting in person; and lots of luck accomplishing those New Year's resolutions. Happy 2020! Brooke Dowdy Dallas Publisher brooke@papercitymag.com
