S ummer is officially here! While school is out and we're looking forward to lazy days by the pool and jetting off to sunny vacation destinations, our social calendars are still quite full. My family and I can't wait to spend a few days on the beach in Florida — but before we leave town, we have a few parties to attend. First up, on June 3 and 4, we're celebrating the talented students of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts during the PaperCity-sponsored Booker T. Live performance event at Annette Strauss Square. It's been more than a year since the pandemic put a halt on these creative kiddos' performances, so to say that the anticipation is palpable is an understatement. The two-day festival is giving us major Coachella vibes: Artist and 2012 Booker T. alumni Brooklynd Turner collaborated with Dallas' newest resident artist, Instagram star Donald Robertson, on the event's artwork and backdrop, and we hear there will be plenty of visual and performing arts surprises throughout the weekend. Tickets can be purchased at bookertlive2021.com. On June 5, we're making our way to the Texas Horse Park to toast Equest's 40th anniversary, with a fundraising gala that will support the organization's mission to bring therapeutic equine services and therapy to children and adults with a diverse range of needs. Chairs Lisa and Kendall Laughlin and Katherine and Austin Wyker have been working tirelessly to assemble a beautiful evening, with a gourmet dinner by celeb chef Dean Fearing and a performance by the Jordan Kahn group. On the topic of elegant celebrations, we're thrilled to highlight two spectacular weddings in this issue. From an intimate Carmel to-do planned by Sara Fay Egan Events to a gorgeous Dallas celebration dreamt up by Todd Events, this issue and the partners we've featured throughout these page, will give you plenty of nuptial inspiration. And, now that CDC guidelines allow us to gather again, we couldn't think of a more fitting time to roll out our new PaperCity Weddings program. Whether you had a charming backyard wedding or a black-tie fête for 500, we want to see how you're saying "I do." All of us at PaperCity hope you have a fun and safe summer season! Brooke Dowdy Dallas Publisher brooke@papercitymag.com 16
