Houston's new mega development East River is starting to take shape with new restaurants and office tenants committing to phase one. One of developer Midway's early coups: Getting James Beard Award- nominated Indigo chef Jonny Rhodes to move his Broham Fine Soul Food & Groceries into a 4,000-square-foot space. W hen you check out the new brunch at Gratify Neighborhood Bistro in West University, you don't expect to be swooning over the tacos. But then again, Grant Cooper is used to defying expectations at his restaurants. MorningStar at River Oaks looks like a high-end mid-rise in one of Houston's most desirable neighborhoods, with all the perks of Munoz + Albin Architecture, including a pizza oven and a sky terrace with views that stretch to downtown. Located just off Kirby, Hines' latest is also something of a new direction — the real estate giant's first retirement community in Texas. While MorningStar could pass for any other Hines building at first look, this six-story showstopper only has 112 rooms. This is senior living taken to a new level. "You're going to be wined and dined like you're on a five-star cruise ship and you don't ever want to leave port," says MorningStar CEO Ken Jaeger. Read more at papercitymag.com/senior-living. The popcorn had to be served with champagne. After all, this is the new Lynn Wyatt Theater in the Nancy Kinder Building of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Naming the theater after Houston's leading lady pays homage to Wyatt's 30 years of support and her love of cinema.
