HUNT SLONEM I really don't remember what summers used to be. For the past decade, May through August has become pre-fall — planning the bigger fall PaperCity issues, coordinating dozens of speakers and venues for Texas Design Week Dallas in September, designing invitations and planning dinners, preparing the PaperCity Design Awards site for entries and the Texas Design Week site for the schedule and ticket sales. And there's Round Top Antiques & Design Show occurring two weeks in October with a mini TXDW designer speaker series. I've embraced the design world and love every minute. Over the course of the past 10 years, after booking hundreds of designers and architects from around the world to speak and sign books, I've never met one who was less than gracious … and fascinating. The design showrooms and retailers in Houston and Dallas that host the interior designers during Texas Design Week, and the sponsors that make these weeks possible, are all accommodating, professional, and joyous. I so admire and am amazed at the care, thought, and incredible talent these design professionals pour into every project. It's such a personal industry. Each project is singular, designed for one person. A fashion designer doesn't normally create for one person — it's one dress or one suit or shirt or bag made available to thousands of people. An interior designer or architect? It's one project per client taking months and years to complete, then beginning anew for the next client. Amazing to consider. Hats off to the interior design industry. Holly Moore Editor in Chief 12
