TEXAS DESIGN WEEK HOUSTON IS A TICKETED EVENT. TO PURCHASE TICKETS, AND FOR COMPLETE SCHEDULE, GO TO TEXASDESIGNWEEK.COM. C ameron Silver, rock star of vintage fashion, is founder of beloved L.A. vintage store Decades; a celebrity stylist; one of Time Magazine's 25 Most Influential Names and Faces in Fashion; and a star of Bravo's Dukes of Melrose. This May, Silver debuts his book Caftans: From Classical to Camp (Vendome 2024), which dives into the timeless tale of the caftan. Arguably the world's oldest-known garment, this traditional robe has been seen across cultures and eras, from the chitons of ancient Greeks and Romans to the glamorous cloaks worn by movie stars on the red carpet. The chapter "Caftan Couture" spotlights high-profile caftan iterations from Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld, Emilio Pucci, Oscar de la Renta, and more, while "Caftan Stars" shows caftans in films and on the red carpet, worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Jacqueline Kennedy. As Silver ponders, "What other garment is cozy enough to be worn to sleep yet outrageous enough to dance the night at Studio 54." Caitlin Hsu Texas Design Week Houston: Salon talk and book signing with Cameron Silver, discussing vintage fashion and his new book, Caftans: From Classical to Camp, Monday, April 22, noon to 2 pm, at Shabby Slips, 3465 West Alabama.
