Love AT THE LLS 40 TH LUNCHEON & FASHION SHOW PAPERCITY PROMOTION T he theme of this year's Leukemia and Lymphoma S o c i e t y S t . V a l e n t i n e ' s Day Luncheon & Fashion Show was Love Rises — and given the packed scene for the annual fundraiser, that emotion was indeed in the air. Love of reuniting after our winter hibernation post- Crystal Charity Ball and everyone's holiday travels … Love of fashion and the return of all those fabulous day dresses … And, of course, love for the cause: LLS's mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers, and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. This was the 40th anniversary of the beloved event — yet no one looked a day over 20, I quipped to friends when I heard that news. Festivities started early with a 10 am champagne reception at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, where chairs Brooke Shelby and Samantha Wortley greeted guests, alongside honorary chairs Debbie Hayhurst, Libby Hunt, and Sharon McCullough. You'd need a Pantone book to describe every pretty color found on the Herrera dresses, La Vie caftans, and Valentino trouser suits. Honorees included my dear friend Moll Anderson (Lynda Adleta Heart of Gold Award); Campbell Fearing (Spirit of Tom Landry Award); and Ryan Anthony (Memorial Hero Award), whom we lost in 2020 after a brave fight; he founded the fundraiser C a n c e r B l o w s , f e a t u r i n g noted brass musicians. Also recognized were the forces behind the first LLS Luncheon & Fashion Show, Rusty Duvall and Janet Evans, who started the event in 1985, which made them truly worthy recipients of the Icon Award. The Jan Strimple-produced fashion show featured current collections from Highland Park Village retailers Alice + Olivia, La Vie Style House, Lela Rose, and Market. Spotted: the well- heeled advisory chairs Maggie Kipp and Nancy Gopez (fellow advisory chair Melinda Knowles had been whisked way by her husband for a last- minute romantic getaway), Nancy Rogers, Peggy Sewell, Jacquelin Atkinson, Missy Peck, Muffin Lemak, and Shelle Sills.
