By Candice Cowin. Photography Heather Robards. A NIGHT IN MARRAKECH (Continued) S porting custom-made Western hats, Moroccan caftans, and Texas-sized gregariousness, Million Dollar Decorators alums Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Kathryn Ireland fully embraced the spirit of Round Top during their visit to our fabled antiques and design show. The British- born friends and California-based design contemporaries are best known for divining the interiors of Hollywood elites, including several Kardashians, Sir Elton John, RuPaul, Cher, and Steve Martin. Immediately upon their Round Top arrival, the thick-as-thieves pair hit the tents in search of celebrity-worthy pieces. Flitting from one venue to the next, Bullard and Ireland paused only to pose for selfies with fans and to attend a few events. "One of my favorite things," said Ireland, "is coming to Texas." Bullard added, "And she's never one to leave a cowboy behind." The designers were guests of honor at the twice-a-year PaperCity and Benjamin Moore Designer Dinner, this spring with a Moroccan-themed feast created by Rachael Volz's A Fare Extraordinaire, and sumptuous Moroccan dinner tables and lounge designed by Caravan owners Adil Belaguid and Jade Pleming. It all took place at The Halles, with thanks to generous Texas Proud Sponsors Back Row Home's Tracey Shingledecker and Kelly O'Donnell, Susan Horne Antiques' Susan Horne and Meghan Horne, and Thorntree. Benjamin Moore's Lauren Corbin and Jose Veliz flew in for the night, and along with Houston compatriot Annie Miranda-Sommer, danced until the wee hours. Designers and guests were greeted with generous scoops of Domus Caviar by Chloe Di Leo, Moroccan mojitos and hors d'oeuvres of perfectly grilled steak bites with chermoula sauce and maakouda (a fried potato croquette with harissa sauce). The Night in Marrakech tables were bright with bundles of fiery flowers created by Maxit Flower Design out of Houston, block-printed table linens, flickering candles in Moroccan lanterns, and tiny clay tagines. First course was Moroccan carrot salad tossed with spicy lemon dressing, followed by an entrée of tender lamb tagine served over roasted chickpea, butternut squash, and couscous with fresh herbs, and sides of zaalouk — a smoky eggplant dip accompanied by crispy pita. The grande finale was orange blossom baklava dusted with candied pistachios and walnuts, and topped with honeycomb.
