Eager to preserve the features they loved, the clients kept the room's original coffered ceiling and crystal chandelier intact. "A square shape is unusual for a chandelier, and it worked beautifully with the architecture," Yates says. A finely crafted chest, handmade in Mexico City by Alfonso Marina, flanks the stone fireplace and adds another layer of artistry. The husband's office, which opens onto a secluded patio, is a wood-paneled retreat with custom cabinetry and handsome furnishings.
