By Brooke Hortenstine and Rob Brinkley W e sometimes look towards the past for inspiration for the future. That said — we often find ourselves t h u m b i n g through old PaperCitys in the archives, particularly the witty era when co-editors Brooke Hortenstine and Rob Brinkley steered this ship. We happened upon the August 2010 issue and found their story "Old School 101," with this simple explanation under the title: "Some things will never, ever go out of style. Herewith, those things. Embrace your inner Thurston and Lovey. Live the list." And then the byline: By Robsie Brinkley and Brooksie Hortenstine. We adored their adoring nod to all things classic vintage that were even cooler then (2010). A pleading text was sent to those emeritus editors: Will you please update that fabulous list for 2025? Lucky for us, the response was: When do you need it? Their insights into what's old that's cool again is, of course, pitch-perfect. They also sprinkled in some things that are stylish right now that should transcend time (some already have) — coveted today, collectible tomorrow. If these goodies were stock tips, we're quite sure we'd be indicted for insider trading. And what was said in 2010 still stands true today: Live the list.
