Delicious Delilah I f F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jay Gatsby didn't already have a palatial estate in West Egg, he would entertain at the recently opened Delilah in the Dallas Design District. (I envision myself as the Nick Carraway of this tale, given that my humble abode is akin to Nick's in West Egg, and I live for being a fly on the wall at swellegant affairs.) Delilah — a supper club inspired by the Prohibition era and the roaring '20s, with a dash of Old Hollywood glamour — has been all the rage in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Miami. Rumors began flying during late COVID times that The h.wood Group out of L.A. would open this fourth iteration in Dallas. (A fifth opens in New York City later this year.) In vibe, Cafe Trocadero and Ciro's come to mind, with marquee stars like Crawford, Holden, and Gable holding court in velvet banquettes while society scribes Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper notate their shenanigans for the world to devour. Fast forward a few years, and the Delilah Dallas debut was … To quote Gatsby party fixture Jordan Baker: "I like large parties. They're so intimate. At small parties there isn't any privacy." … So, let's just say that Delilah threw a large party. Weeks before the opening, I began hearing such sotto voce remarks as "I heard they had 750 RSVPs for the night" and "Celebrities are jetting in for the opening." Given that Dallas had been home bound for days due to the snowpocalypse, at least 750 showed up for the evening of revelry. The queue of girls wrapped in furs and dashing gents in velvet dinner jackets waiting for their names to be checked off the list stretched down the block. For the occasion, I opted for a gentle mash-up of Thom Browne and Benedictine monk, while my plus one, Nathan Vernon, went with all-black Vivienne Westwood. My best-dressed honors for the night go to Georgina Hartland in a Gucci caftan — with plumage; Annika Cail in a furry orange Isabel Marant off-the-shoulder dress; Jessica Nowitzki in a Maki Oh skirt with vintage silk blouse; Lele Sadoughi looking like a character from Palm Royale in an Anja Flint dress, Toccin jacket, and accessories from her namesake line; and Nickki St. George in chaste yet devilish white Balmain. Best-dressed couple accolades go to Tom Karol in a white Gabriela Hearst dinner jacket and Tom Ford accessories ("Bond, James Bond") and his swanlike wife, Jennifer, in head-to- stiletto Tom Ford. When I asked Porschla Kidd who she was wearing, she winked at me over the cocktail held to her lips and said, "It's Miami Michelle Pfeiffer cocaine chic." That's a fashion genre that's hard to nail, but she pulled it off — sans drugs — in her Mes Demoiselles Paris dress and Paris Texas boots. By Billy Fong. Photography Chase Hall.
