Tobia Scarpa with Biagio 34 K nown for her quietly luxurious, exacting sensibility, London designer and gallerist Rose Uniacke has built an international following around her interiors and collections that prize materiality, craftsmanship, and restraint. Now, her distinctive world is making its Texas debut with a showroom at The Cottages at Matt Camron, Houston, which offers a rich fabric library alongside a selection of furniture and lighting, all designed as an immersion in Uniacke's refined aesthetic. Uniacke launched her furniture and lighting collection in 2010 to complement her full-scale design business. Projects range from private members club San Vicente West Village to Belmond Royal Scotsman to her own magnificent home, the restored mansion of artist James Rannie Swinton, which was featured in the Rizzoli book Rose Uniacke at Home. New classics include the Petersham sofa and armchair with elegant lines, subtle flared arms and an extra-deep base for comfort. Textiles followed in 2017, with a collection of custom-dyed natural fibers produced by small European mills, in her signature soothing, earthen color palette — plush velvets, rich felts, airy linens, and classic calicos for upholstery, furnishings, wallcoverings, and drapery. Uniacke taps into her own trove of antique fabrics for design inspiration and has also been known to delve into the archives of the mills she uses to give elapsed designs new life. Matt Camron will serve as the exclusive representative in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana of the Rose Uniacke collections of fabric, lighting, and furniture.
