I've been searching for more than 20 years but never made the time to sit down and read the magnum opus until this recent spring break — and I knocked it out in less than a week! You can't help but be shuddered by the stark differences in the socialist group and the profit-loving protagonists. Oddly, I found myself motivated by both sides to come back from the break and work hard at the magazine — ultimately siding with the protagonists, of course! Post-spring break also means it's time for the Dallas Art Fair, now in its [ F riends Suzanne and David Droese invited our family on vacation to Taos, New Mexico, during the week of spring break. Before boarding the plane to Santa Fe, there were 10 stories on our runsheets listed as very overdue — with my initials next to all of them. Thankfully, the view of the Sangre de Christo Mountains served as an ideal muse to type up copy for this stylishly nomadic April travel issue. In these pages, we introduce you to the charming and kiteboarding general manager of the new Omni Dallas Hotel, Nils Stolzlechner (page 29). He's made quite a name for himself by not only competing against men half his age, but also building the boards he competes on. We visit the collected homes of two of my favorite voyagers, Merry Vose and Julie Hawes (pages 38 through 41) — who are also serving as the co-chairmen of this Special Section: PC's Guide to Dallas Art Fair 2012 One of our most intriguing rites of spring in the Texas cultural firmament is Dallas Art Fair 2012 — and it's happening this month, unveiling April 13 through 15 at Fashion Industry Gallery, in the Dallas Arts District. Are we going? You can count on it. (Follow our daily blog from the Fair at papercitymag.com/ Arts.) Meanwhile, as media sponsor, we've once again researched and compiled an advance preview of all the Fair action — the international, national and Texas power players; the most scintillating artists; the lively programming; and all the openings that showcase Dallas' museums, nonprofits, art spaces and foundations. Peruse our guide in advance of your Fair days for info about how to secure limited-edition Premiere Patron Passes and Patron Passes, as well as Preview Gala and ticketing details. This year, we'd say the theme is "iconoclasts," from the Fair co-founders Chris Byrne and John Sughrue to the exhibitors, who range from a performing artist transformed into Lower East Side gallerist (Hudson of Feature Inc.) to 20-something dealer Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld, whose sensibility is filtered through a Euro, film and fashion lens.
