Cartier, 2301 Post Oak Blvd., 713.871.0177, cartier.us A fter 16 years at The Galleria, Cartier has packed its baubles and bags and moved to a new salon in Post Oak Centre on Post Oak Boulevard, between Westheimer and San Felipe (after a two-month staycation in a suite at the St. Regis Hotel while the sumptuous Post Oak space was being readied). As beautiful as it is, this 2,892-square-foot location is simply an interim home for the next year, until the Maison's définitif relocation to the new River Oaks District in May 2015. Designed by Cartier's in-house architect Bruno Moinard, the Post Oak project was executed by Houston's Gensler. Look for the full selection of timepieces, jewelry, engagement rings, fragrances and leather goods, including the newly debuted Louis Cartier and Jeanne Toussaint handbag collections, as well as the Amulette de Cartier, a charmed, bejeweled capsule of mother- of-pearl, onyx and diamond pavé — perhaps a modern-day dreamcatcher — all just a crimson box away. Family- owned Chinese jeweler LAI creates elegant bespoke jewelry with contemporary design elements. Head designer Skir Lin, a graduate of London's Central Saint Martins, focuses on creating luxurious designs; her collections have been praised for their technical innovation. The PaperCity ranks dwindle; missives to readers return with I will have limited access to email … We're rushing to tie up business with Europe before the month-long August sojourn. Yes, we would love to be in the South of France, Tuscany, The Hamptons or Berlin, but there's something magical about these unstructured days in the blistering heat, snoozing a little longer, postponing meetings — things you don't allow yourself to do in the go- go fall. But there are blips of excitement: Vineyard Vines opens in Highland Village in the next few months, and John Varvatos opens July 2 in Galleria 1. The new Common Bond Cafe & Bakery is a hit (see page 14); the bakers and pastry chefs are royals with experience drawn from El Bulli, Pierre Herme, Balthazar and Bouley. The magnificent Houghton Hall exhibit of the ancestral goods and recreated rooms from the 106-room Palladian pile of the adorable Marquess of Cholmondeley, his wife and children is on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through September. We wandered the exhibition and pondered, 'What would it take to recreate these grand and eccentric rooms?' See Seth Vaughan and Megan Pruitt Winder's version of Marquess largess on page 20. Summer is for dreaming. One of my favorite documentarians is the late Slim Aarons, who once said his job was to take pictures of beautiful people doing beautiful things. That's what we've done in this issue — see "It's a Cupcake Life" (pages 22 – 23), the idyllic domain of Crave Cupcakes owners Elizabeth and Peter Cooper; chic Lynn Goode's fashionable opening fête of her vintage design store; three supermodels from the '80s and what their lives stand for now; and five individuals beautifully shot by Jack Thompson, who shape the way we see art in Houston. We misstated the location of the newly renovated Bulgari store in our June issue. After months of painstaking renovations, the Italian jewelry icon has reopened in its original Galleria location — Galleria 1, Level 1, near Neiman Marcus. OOPS T ourbillon, Galleria 2, Level One 713.850.1056, tourbillon.com Tourbillon — the esteemed luxury label of the Swatch Group — opens its second Texas store in Houston (the first is in Dallas NorthPark Center) with a 2,803-square-foot boutique in Galleria 2, offering exceptional timepieces from prestige brands owned by the Swatch Group including Breguet, Blancpain, Glashutte Original, Jaquet Droz, Omega and Swatch special collections. In keeping with the exclusive offerings, Tourbillon, as it does in all its stores the world over, implements a unique shop-in-shop concept allowing for exquisite timepieces from each brand to harmoniously reside. Luxury ambassador John Evatz (formerly with Cartier Houston, Cartier High Jewelry New York and Graff Diamonds) will take up the mantle of Tourbillon boutique manager, launching the Haute Horlogerie and Prestige Timepiece Collection under the global Swatch Group International. As for the name Tourbillon … it's a reference to the gravity-defying internal movement developed in 1795 by French-Swiss watchmaker Breguet as a means to improve the accuracy of the time a watch keeps. Proving these brands have long been ahead of their times. Anna Schuster About Time: Tourbillon's new boutique Breguet Messidor Tourbillon T he Slim Aarons x Napoleon Perdis Collection, launching this month, pairs art with beauty in a confluence of effortless glamour and electric color. It all began with photographer Slim Aarons' iconic Poolside Gossip image. Shot in 1970 at a home designed by modernist architect Richard Neutra, this image is one of many that Aarons shot to capture the beautiful people doing beautiful things — in their villas, yachts and seaside sprawls. Enter Napoleon Perdis … The Australian makeup whiz worked with the Aarons family and Getty Images to secure the rights to Poolside Gossip, his inspiration for his limited-edition collection of essentials that recreate the sun-kissed glow synonymous with '70s resort glamour. Tucked inside a travel bag emblazoned with the famous photograph are Champagne Days Cream Highlighter, Matte Bronzer, Entitled Cream Lipstick and Two-Faced Eyeliner Duo (the latter, flicked with turquoise and emerald). "This collection encapsulates the concept of 'chic off-duty,'" Perdis says. $35 to $145, at Neiman Marcus.
