F or its 11th year, the March of Dimes continued the tony tradition of mixing style with philanthropy for its annual Labor Day Luncheon benefitting The Woman's Hospital of Texas. Chairmen Linda Russell, hospital CEO, and Laura Davenport, MOD Guild member, oversaw the mid-day fête with runway show, style tips, pop-up shops and, of course, a luncheon, all choreographed to perfection at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Six hundred philanthropic women attended, emceed by ABC13's Miya Shay, with stylist/image consultant Rebecca Matthews spilling fashion secrets in a seminar just before the fashion show, which was produced by man about town Todd Ramos. Helping to raise both funds and awareness for March of Dimes, a historic organization that aids premature babies and their moms, keynote speaker Melissa Booner movingly shared her positive experience with the NICU when she gave birth to twins prematurely at 32 weeks. Queens around the catwalk: March of Dimes executive director Hallee Winnie, Karina Barbieri, Emily Elliott, Christie Sullivan, Jacquie Baly, Dalida Anthony, Nadine Boutros, Natalie King, Vanessa Sendukas, Katie Nixon, Kelcey Kochner, and Bethany Factor. The clever installation left you wanting to know more — an apt summation of the revolution that has come about since New York-based architects WORKac structurally reimagined the Blaffer in 2011, under the watchful eye of museum director and chief curator Claudia Schmuckli. The suspended parasols were part of this year's gala, themed Ready.Steady.Go! after a 1960s British TV show comparable to America's Soul Train and American Bandstand. The theme prompted guests to turn out in sleek, chic and fun frocks for a night of cocktails throughout the first floor; a seated supper, care of City Kitchen, atop Pucci-esque tablecloths in the two main galleries; a photo booth tucked inside a Volkswagen Type 2 caravan; and a raucous dance party in one of the upstairs galleries, its white walls the perfect backdrop for a psychedelic light show. Adding an art-filled dimension was a silent auction of 15 works from artists Anton Ginzburg, Laura Letinsky and Miguel Amat. Also joining the fun were Cecilia Márquez's Houston-based design shop Saint Cloud, which provided witty cacti centerpieces for each table, and two Saks Fifth Avenue brands: Courrèges, which donated trademark white sunglasses as favors for those who gave $100 or more, and Reed Krakoff, which customized luggage tags for the night's most involved individuals.
