Road Trip: Make Waxahachie your next destination and motor on over to Webb Gallery for the pleasures of the cleverly monikered "Mother Popcorn" roundup, which brings together four femmes who make art in pockets of creativity from Wisconsin to L.A. and Philadelphia, in a genre that invokes the energy and attitude of visionary art (through August 2). The quartet on view are Nancy Mladenoff, Julie Murphy, Martha Rich and Esther Pearl Watson (also concurrently commissioned by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, where Watson's epic 10-by-13-foot creation is up now into 2016). Speaking of gallery proprietors Julie and Bruce Webb, watch these pages this fall for a unique peek into their personal quarters. Grab Bag: Ro2 Art's summer show is a group stunner. Invoking the 19th-century salon-style tradition, the gallery packs nearly 50 talents into its downtown space, making for a delightful collecting opportunity (through July 25). Just In: Kudos to the Dallas Contemporary, which has just landed another coup during the directorship of Peter Doroshenko: a $75,000 renewable grant from the Bloomberg Philanthropies' Arts Innovation and Management [AIM] program, which funnels monies to six cities across America to amplify the mission of small to mid-sized arts organizations. The DC is also eligible for the same amount again in 2016 … For more hot topics, including our twice-weekly blog, follow our arts channel online, papercitymag.com. Catherine D. They're not as light-hearted as they seem: Look closely for smokestacks, abandoned buildings and the scenes themselves, which smack of "the inner condition and disturbances of normality: its cosmetic fakery, sexual innuendo, commodified leisure, deluded sense of affluence, and rigid conformism," pronounced Vitali. Ahhhh, Massimo. We just thought it was a day at the beach. Vilebrequin limited-edition Massimo Vitali swim trunk $300, at vilebrequin. com.
