JULY | PAGE 8 | 2015 GATHERING MOSS AT NEIMAN'S AND ISLAND STYLE AT JAN SHOWERS BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY BRUNO, MEI-CHUN JAU. VICTORY GARDEN Spring was in full bloom at Neiman Marcus Downtown, which transformed overnight into the ultimate secret garden. In partnership with Architectural Digest, the flagship store welcomed to town designer Charlotte Moss, who, along with Neiman's talented visual display folks, worked her green-thumb magic, drawing inspiration from her latest tome, Garden Inspirations (Rizzoli). A lush green lawn (not a brown patch in sight), pink peonies and verdant green ivy, dapper designers and sleek socials made for a bucolic bash. Designers Cathy Kincaid and Jan Showers, alongside NM fashion director and senior VP Ken Downing, hosted the evening with the marvelous Moss, who signed copies of her book. Grabbing a copy: Wanda Gierhart, Mimi Sterling, Jeff Byron, Shelle Sills, Ramona Jones, Peggy Sewell, Devin Ellis, Kathleen Rozelle, and Simona Beal. HOSTING HICKS Jan Showers is the name to drop when you're in the design biz, so when India Hicks' publisher asked Miz Showers to host a social gathering for India, she graciously opened her doors. British and design royalty, India has fascinated us since she was a bridesmaid in her godfather's wedding to Princess Diana in 1980. The daughter of our full-time obsession, decorator David Hicks, and Lady Pamela Hicks, as well as granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten, she charmed all with a salon-style talk followed by a luncheon celebrating her newest book, India Hicks: Island Style (Rizzoli). The topic of both the conversation and the luscious book is her colorful and charmed life on Harbour Island, with stories and images of her family, her Harbour Island home Hibiscus Hill and those sassy British royal relatives. Taking notes: Ashley Hunt, Claire Dewar, Laura Lee Clark, Julie Hawes, Natalie Nix, Elaine Agather, Ali Lucas, Katherine Fisk, Lisa Runyon, and Meg Florence. PHOTOGRAPHY RHIANNON LEE. "SATURDAY NIGHT AND WE'RE IN THE SPOT … DON'T BELIEVE ME, JUST WATCH!" shouted fedora-clad Maxwell Anderson in a cleverly composed video that premiered during this year's Art Ball. It was a white-hot night as the city's heavyweights flooded the Dallas Museum of Art to celebrate the institution's 50th anniversary. Seats are always snapped up for this black-tie fête, and this year's ball exceeded expectations yet again, raising a record-breaking $2.4 million for the DMA. A step-and-repeat transitioned the 500 well-heeled patrons into shutterbug mode, in keeping with the evening's Self-Portrait theme. Heidi Dillon rocked a red Moschino Budweiser cape, while Nasiba Hartland-Mackie stunned in Rodarte's R2d2 draped silk satin gown. Eugene McDermott Director Maxwell Anderson, his wife Jacqueline, and Art Ball chairman Nancy Carlson greeted guests, who pored over the stellar Forty Five Ten pop-up shop of limited-edition anniversary goodies — including Lisa Perry's Selfie dress and Hoorsenbuhs Forevermark Diamond Phantom cuff — then converged in the tented space, transformed by Todd Events with twinkling beams of red and purple lights and hanging installations that projected blinking eyes and moving faces. Kitty Carmichael performed beneath Mark di Suvero's iconic Ave sculpture while patrons enjoyed cutting-edge cuisine à la Cassandra Fine Catering including quail eggs, duck confit and chocolate tarts. Then it was time to get funky — cue a projected video of Anderson disguised as Bruno Mars to kick off "Artball Funk," a parodic music video of the popular song "Uptown Funk," starring several of the city's top art emissaries including Cindy and Howard Rachofsky, Marguerite Hoffman, and Deedie Rose. The energy continued to flow at the after-party, where chairs Jackie Bolin, Erin Wasson, and guest DJ Solange Knowles (Beyoncé's little sister) had everyone — including Brant McFarlain, Justin Moon, Niña and Trevor Tollett, Brian Bolke, Faisal Halum, Capera Ryan, and Meghan Looney — tearing up the dance floor till 1 am. DMA, hot damn, you did it again … Stylish selfies: Margaret McDermott, Ann and Gabriel Barbier- Mueller, Julie Hawes, Ann and David Sutherland, Rusty Rose, Hugh Edmeades, Catherine and Will Rose, Elaine Agather, Gina Betts, Jessica Nowitski, Mike and Micki Rawlings, John and Jennifer Eagle, and Lawrence and Katy Bock.
