DECORATION BUZZ IN A BOX It took an architect and an engineering firm to pull off Patrizia Moroso's latest furniture coup. But an elaborate level of involvement has been the Italian furniture maker's signature since Patrizia took over as artistic director of her family's business, Moroso, 30 years ago. Moroso has pursued some of the most interesting talents of our era as collaborators, most recently teaming with Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind, whose debut Gemma seating collection is now available to order in the U.S. The elements are straightforward — an armchair and sofa sized for residential use and a pared-down sofa system for public spaces. The asymmetrical shapes derive from Libeskind's love of complex, culturally layered architecture. Inspired by the multifaceted surface of crystals (a longtime Libeskind muse), Gemma's mathematically rigorous steel frames (realized by Italy-based Feruglio Engineering) come in an ombré-effect knitted fabric or solid-color leather upholstery. And, when Libeskind is involved, expect a little poetry. The collection is a refined version of an earlier artistic effort in wood (later, concrete) that Libeskind created in 2014 for the performance piece Counting Rice by a friend, artist Marina Abramovic. The performance was staged for the 2014 Salone in Milan and later that year at Miami Art Basel. A Houston location opens in late July, as part of a national rollout that includes Boston, Chicago and Miami. The 2,700-square-foot Dallas showroom includes an exterior courtyard to showcase the sought-after Orbit XXL daybed and hanging NestRest seating. Dedon was founded in 1990 by a German soccer pro turned entrepreneur, and its high-tech synthetic fibers are woven into furniture by skilled rattan artisans on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. The combination of New World technology with Old World craftsmanship revolutionized outdoor furniture; Dedon's woven tables and chairs are now considered iconic. The company is also known for collaborating with designers such as Philippe Starck and Jean-Marie Massaud to produce fresh looks. For Spring 2016, Dedon has launched four new collections, including lounge seating by modular design master Toan Nguyen, who also recently created a contemporary collection for Fendi Casa. At $1,300, Baccarat's Cocktail Party in a Box is a set of eight of its most iconic glass designs: Château Baccarat flute, Vega flute, Château Baccarat wine glass, Vega Martini, Harcourt 1841 Old Fashion tumbler, Vega highball, Harcourt 1841 wine glass and Biba tumbler. Ensconced in Baccarat's signature red box, the legendary crystal glasses are no- fail conversation starters. Rebecca Sherman GREEN SCENE Renowned architecture firm Lake/Flato is designing the new Dallas digs for Austin-based hipster hardware store TreeHouse. In glass and wood, the building will not only be beautiful but net-zero energy — the first such retail store in Texas and the first home-improvement store of its kind in the country. Natural light will illuminate the space during the day; rooftop solar panels will store energy in a Tesla Powerpack for evening use. Treehouse will be the first retailer to sell the much-anticipated Tesla Powerwall, a state-of-the-art battery system to run your home. It's also the largest retailer of Nest, a line of beautifully designed products for the home, such as thermostats and smoke alarms. Also look for Bole flooring, Roma Bio paints, Big Ass Fans and Soma Water filters among the store's many green and sustainable collections. Garrett Boone, The Container Store's co-founder, is Treehouse's biggest investor and a force behind bringing it to Dallas. The store broke ground in late June at 8021 Walnut Hill Lane and will open sometime in 2017. Rebecca Sherman MOROSO'S MUSE Gallerie Noir owner Melissa Enriquez has added Kelly Wearstler's full collection of lighting to a lineup of carefully curated enticements that includes Lucite furniture from Alexandra Von Furstenberg, sleek tabletop and lighting from Billy Cotton and candles featuring the work of graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Wearstler's 100-piece collection, designed for Houston- based Visual Comfort, includes table and floor lamps, sconces and chandeliers. Everything is available to order on Gallerie Noir's website and at the store, where Enriquez says she will keep a big selection of the lighting on hand. Standouts include the Melange table lamp in bronze and alabaster ($3,150), Cubist chandelier in a variety of finishes and sizes, ($1,050 to $3,300) and Precision double sconce in antique-burnished brass ($1,100). Rebecca Sherman In August, RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) unveils a reimagined Dallas store with an exhibition space for its RH Modern collection, new Design Atelier and Ben Soleimani Rug Showroom. RH Modern, which debuted last fall, includes sleek and glamorous furniture, lighting and outdoor collaborations with designers Mario Fortuny, Barlas Baylar, Jonathan Browning and Marmol Radziner, along with reissues of iconic originals by Milo Baughman. Materials include leather, shagreen, stone, brass, bronze, lacquers, aged mirror and rustic and refined woods. Dallas will be one of the first U.S. cities where the RH Modern collection can be viewed. The new Design Atelier includes a library of fabrics, leathers and furniture finishes, with galleries for window treatments, linens and bath hardware.
