44 ANOTHER YEAR, NASHER BY CHRISTINA GEYER. PHOTOGRAPHY A SEA OF LOVE. W hen the first events of the fall season occur, it seems everyone can't help but gasp in awe: It's already been a year? This phenomenon is perhaps most prevalent at the annual Nasher Prize Laureate announcement, a cocktail party held at The Warehouse, a nondescript art space that houses the private collections of Howard Rachofsky and the late Vernon Faulconer. Indeed, another year has blown by, and in mid-September, we found ourselves once again at The Warehouse, chatting up our favorite members of the top-tier art contingent — Nasher Prize co-chairs Fanchon and Howard Hallam and John Dayton; past Nasher Prize chairs Derek Wilson and Sharon Young; the Nasher Sculpture Center's director Jeremy Strick; Cindy Rachofsky, Elaine Agather, Jennifer and John Eagle, and Nancy Nasher and David Haemisegger — while we all anxiously awaited the big reveal. Who would be lauded this year with the $100,000 Nasher Prize, awarded to the most ambitious of artists whose work has contributed to the elevation of our understanding of sculpture. Following Strick's eloquent remarks, at promptly 7 pm — the Nasher's figureheads run a tight ship, much to the delight of busy partygoers — the name was revealed. German artist Isa Genzken takes top prize for her multimedia work that varies from photography and filmmaking to painting and drawing, sculpture, and collage. "Isa Genzken has an uncanny way of taking the pulse of every moment, changing her methods of sculpture-making in order to best describe the energy of the time," Strick told PaperCity. "Because of that, when looking back over her career of the last 40 years, you are able to get a sense of each decade's spirit, and see how she has shaped subsequent generations of artists through her creative disrup- tion of traditional approaches and forms." We look forward to celebrating Genzken on Saturday, April 6, 2019, when she will jet in to attend the Nasher Prize Gala. another Temple Shipley, Danielle Cardoso Maia, Debbie & Eric Green Howard & Cindy Rachofsky, Wendy & Jeremy Strick John & Jennifer Eagle, Neils & Elaine Agather Derek Willson, Kimberly & Justin Whitman John Dayton, Fanchon & Howard Hallam Nancy Nasher & David Haemisegger Nick Even, Lynn McBee, Donald Fowler Kenny Goss, Sharon Young, Jodie Oliver Emily Summers
