40 STERLING RUBY ROCKS NASHER BY BILLY FONG. PHOTOGRAPHY BRET REDMAN. O ne opening we simply couldn't miss was the Nasher Sculpture Center's celebration of "Sterling Ruby: Sculpture," the large-scale exhibition dedicated to the sculptural work of the Germany–born, L.A.–based talent. Ruby is a bit of a rock-star artist, whose multifaceted oeuvre encompasses sculpture, ceramics, installation, textiles, clothing, painting, collage, photography, and video. Many artists attempt to work across as many mediums and genres, but somehow their voices are lost in the cacophony. Not so with Ruby. With the artist himself in attendance to offer a VIP walk-through of the exhibition, a top-tier roster of art patrons turned out, including Christen and Derek Wilson, Nasiba Adilova, Lilia Kudelia, Sofia Bastidas, Lucilo Peña, Lisa Dawson, and Fred Holston. Of course, Nasher director Jeremy Strick was there, helping guide guests through the show of nearly 30 large- and moderately scaled sculptures spanning Ruby's career. A coup, the Nasher's exhibition was the first museum show to survey the great variety of Ruby's sculptural work. Art wasn't the only thing on people's minds that night, however, as Forty Five Ten had recently premiered new windows at its downtown flagship store created by Ruby to celebrate the artist's collaboration with Raf Simons for Calvin Klein's Pre-Spring 2019 collection. the Jed Morse, Sterling Ruby Christen Wilson, Nasiba Adilova Emilien Crespo, Piero Golia Xavier Hufkens, Melanie Sniff, Simon Devolder, Tyler Britt Pierre Rougier Kay & Gene Lunceford Jay & Ruthie Pack Arthur Peña, Temple Shipley Lucilo Peña, Lisa Dawson, Fred Holston Sterling Ruby's Consolidator, 2008-2009 Andrea Nasher
