ART + DECORATION W e ran across the perfect little room, a solarium created by Dallas designer Vicki Crew for a client in Springdale, Arkansas, and we had to get the details. Jakob Schlaepfer wallpaper, made in Switzerland, covers the ceiling of the 19-foot high solarium. The 114-year-old Schlaepfer custom-scaled and printed its Poppy Corte pattern to fit the domed ceiling's 12 wedge- shaped panels. "With glass walls, this left no space for art," Crew says. "So the ceiling became our canvas." Christian Lacroix's Parvenue sheer fabric covers the windows, and the bespoke furnishings were inspired by French 1930s interiors. More than 10,000 crystal beads sparkle from the hand-made Niermann Weeks Biarritz chandelier. Dallas architect Richard Drummond Davis based the solarium's architecture on Donato Bramante's Tempietto, a small 16th-century temple set in a narrow courtyard of the Church of San Pietro in Montorio, Italy. The centuries-old design is updated with a partially enclosed loggia surrounding the solarium, which is accessed on two sides by glass corridors. The dome's exterior is shingled in copper.
