66 ART + DECORATION WHERE THE WILDEST THINGS ARE I t's now much easier to acquire a wild and wondrous Haas Brothers oddity. The Los Angeles artists, twins Nikolai and Simon Haas, have collaborated with L'Objet on a collection inspired by the desert of Joshua Tree. While the brothers are known for multipurpose works and sculptural furnishings that have reached close to $200,000 at auction, the L'Objet collaboration marks a foray into the fully functional — and refreshingly accessible. Provocative shapes, hand-carved scales, porcelain "fur," wild horns, and gilded moments — hallmarks of their work — have been artistically translated into seemingly ordinary objects — a cavorting coffee pot, horned plate-box, and more. The artists worked closely with L'Objet founder and creative director Elad Yifrach, w ith 3D prints fl ying from L.A. to the L'Objet porcelain atelier in Portugal. The family of creatures are priced $28 to $1,650. A number of the pieces are limited editions, $3,500 each. Rare specimens, indeed. At Lisa Collins Shaddock HAAS BROTHERS X L'OBJET
