MARGIELA HEADS NORTH BALENCIAGA OPENS F rench fashion house Balenciaga opens its newest boutique in The Galleria, Level 1 near Neiman Marcus. Designed by artistic director Demna Gvasalia, the 2,577-square-foot space stocks men's and women's ready-to-wear and accessories. The opening coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Balenciaga Classic collection, which has been updated for the occasion. The Neo Classic bag sports a new look, new dimensions, and a new interior of bonded nappa lambskin lining; find it at the Balenciaga store, The Galleria, T he elusive Martin Margiela is back! Well … Actually, he's not, but the documentary that explores the life of the iconic fashion designer received its public launch last month. PaperCity covered Martin Margiela: In His Own Words when it premiered at the DOC NYC 2019 film festival last November. Written and directed by Reiner Holzemer (previous works include the Dries Van Noten documentary), the film illustrates Margiela's philosophy on design. Spanning 20 years, the documentary explores his life and his most important designs through drawings, notes, and personal items alongside interviews with Margiela himself (whose face is never shown) and other fashion luminaries as the designer prepares for the first retrospective of his work at Paris' Palais Galliera. The collaboration merges the outdoor specialist's Expedition System with the conceptual design work of Margiela. Renowned for its customizable approach using detachable, layered pieces to combat the elements, The North Face has produced rock-solid outdoor clothing for years. Margiela reimagined keystone Expedition System garments using patterns that mimic the circle concept of the MM6 collection. At Traffic Los Angeles, Dallas; T he collaboration continues: Maison Margiela and Berlin eyewear maker Mykita have launched their latest eyewear collection, Mykita + MM6 Maison Margiela. The special-edition takes its cue from Margiela's MM6 AW20 collection, with an oversized sunshield (lens) paired with a straight frame fashioned from Mykita's proprietary Mylon material. Thanks to 3D manufacturing, the result is a sleek, ultra-lightweight pair of sunglasses that merges high-tech materials and manufacturing with old- world sex appeal.
