26 MEMENTO MORI F ew people articulate the nature of flowers as fluently as Catherine and Michael Viviano. The mother-and-son architectural design team behind Viviano Viviano suggests their offshoot flower service, Ciuri (Sicilian for "flower"), is a counterpoint to the much slower processes of architecture and design. "Flowers are a living, inherently temporary medium," Michael says. "So there are some interesting ideas to play with there. We think about the vessel and how the floral varietals will interact with it; how the arrangement will move and change over the course of a week or so; how it will look in various light conditions.
