66 M arie Flanigan, a Houston rising interiors star (who had a recent role on Property Brothers), makes a further mark on the American decorating stage this month with the release of her first book, The Beauty of Home: Redefining Traditional Interiors (Gibbs Smith, $45; photography by Houston-based Julie Soefer). Flanigan studied architecture in college with a transformative stint in Tuscany, then turned to design. In her book, she reveals the nine essentials that define her interiors: architecture, composition, character, palette, illumination, detail, simplicity, depth, and surprise. These guiding design principles are handsomely conveyed via 14 homes in River Oaks, Hunters Creek, Bunker Hill, Bellaire, Memorial, Memorial Park, and Briargrove, rubbing shoulders with a beach house in Galveston, a Brenham farmhouse, a Telluride Victorian, a lakeside retreat in Marble Falls, and a modern ch√Ęteau in McLean, Virginia.
