A cutting-edge collaboration between one of Houston's preeminent European l u x u r y f u r n i t u r e purveyors and a major Dallas gallery promises to energize the dialogue between art and design in Texas. Cue Casa Houston and Samuel Lynne Galleries. Currently installed at Casa Houston's handsome Upper Kirby District 10,000-square-foot showroom, the innovative conversation pairs Italian interiors brands (Giorgetti, Poltrona Frau, Rimadesio, Listone Giordano) with five talents represented by Samuel Lynne: Lea Fisher, JD Miller, Philip Romano, Tyler Shields, and David Yarrow. Abstract painters Fisher, Miller, and Romano — Dallas practitioners of the Reflectionist movement — engage with the internationally known Shields and Yarrow. In his Houston debut, Shields tantalizes with a heady mix of celebrity, consumerism, eroticism, decadence, and fantasy. The L.A. photographer D esigner Christophe Delcourt takes a sartorial approach to the details of his furniture — he is French after all, working in a country where couturiers are prized. He's also a master of materials. Self-taught, Delcourt learned to create furniture by working closely with artisans in France such as blacksmiths and cabinetmakers. Even the Italians took note: Minotti tapped him to design furniture in 2016, and he soon went out on his own with a collection that made a splash in Milan when it debuted in 2019, praised for its sculptural qualities and seductive juxtaposing of materials. Since then, he's added a number of pieces to the line: tables, desks, and case goods in brushed oak, enameled lava stone, patinated bronze, and brightly colored lacquer; leather and ceramic seating; lighting in oak and lacquered steel; and textiles. Delcourt and his team of in-house designers make furniture the centuries-old way, first conceiving and hand-drawing at their atelier in France, then sending the designs to be produced to a network of top cabinetmakers, ceramists, brass casting experts, upholsterers, and stone masons. The collection is available for the first time in Texas at David Sutherland Showroom. For Casa Houston, Shields collaborates with Samuel Lynne co- owner, artist JD Miller, on an ongoing Masterpiece Collection; each photo unique, rather than an edition. Then there's Yarrow, an altruistic talent whose photographs regularly sell in excess of six figures at auction. Exhibited at Casa Houston are works such as American Hustle, joined by Yarrow's signature wildlife subjects, which were recently highlighted in the artist's Rizzoli book.
