Billy Fong and Dana Garner. Illustration Peyton Thorp. W ith the blink of an eye, so closes 2021. It was a year that had a lot of false starts, as we tried to distance ourselves from the lockdown of 2020. But fall launched with a bang and has yet to slow down. The roaring '20s have finally arrived. Girls, bust out your Balmain and Marc Jacobs-esque flapper dresses; boys, throw on your Tom Ford white tie, apropos for Gatsby's West Egg estate. It's time to celebrate until the wee hours of the morning with champagne coupe in hand. I'm watching the docuseries Gossip and finding fabulous glimpses of the queen of dish, Cindy Adams. She coined the phrase "Only in New York, kids." It got me thinking: What are some things that would appropriately be answered "Only in Dallas, kids." Well, Texas Design Week Dallas is one of them. For those who missed that week that coincided with the opening of Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas (the sequel), you'll be able to live vicariously through our wrap-up of the chic salon talks and cocktails attended by a veritable who's who of the international design set (starting on page 82). On pages 44 and 46, you'll find Rebecca Sherman's feature on a fascinating new book by Jerrie Marcus Smith about her great aunt, Carrie Marcus Neiman, who co-founded Neiman Marcus alongside her husband, Al Neiman, and brother, Herbert Marcus. It's a testament to how women's achievements in that era were overshadowed by their male counterparts. On the topic of retail, I was pleased to sit down for a chat in the charming Koch House with mother- son duo Nicole Musselman and Henry Boykin to hear about their new sneaker line, 33.9. It's a heartfelt ode to Nicole's father, famed basketball coach Bill Musselman. And who doesn't need some tips for the upcoming holidays. Jane Scott Hodges provides us with her formula for the perfect December party — New Orleans style — on page 81. Normally I pen some New Year's resolutions, but simply surviving the past two years seems like I should get a pass. Hopefully, however, you will join me in making one promise for 2022: to live every day with abandon and exuberance. Your ever devoted (and hopefully exuberant) confidante, Billy Fong Editor in Chief 26
