SHADE THROWING S urely there's enough popular demand to get these two a talk show. Designer to the stars M a r t y n L a w r e n c e Bullard and PaperCity Dallas editor in chief Billy Fong brought their witty banter back to the Texas Design Week stage after stealing the show during the 2019 lineup. But for this year, there was a change of scenery — The Shade Store, where Bullard debuted his new collection of window treatments including Roman shades, drapery, and cornices — with plenty of new projects to dish about. One, of course, was Bullard's room in the second annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas, every window of which was outfitted by The Shade Store, including Bullard's Jaipur Room. Bullard painted the ceiling high-gloss Benjamin Moore Desert Rose, a shade of pink reminiscent of the room's namesake city. "Apart from anything else, it gives a beautiful glow and makes you look good — which, knowing I was going to be standing there, I needed desperately," he said. While Bullard disclosed, much to everyone's surprise, that he has yet to do an actual project in Texas, he is well on his way to becoming an honorary Texan. For one, he admitted that he was moving a bit slowly after having discovered a drink called a Ranch Water the evening prior. Second, he has discovered the wonders of Round Top — he brought client Gwen Stefani and found the finishing touches for the homes she shares with husband, Blake Shelton, and says he will absolutely be back.
