REFLECTS I t was an evening of significance when the late painter, Mark Rothko's son — Christopher Rothko, leader of Houston's sacred Rothko Chapel's $32-million ongoing capital campaign, and steward of his father's legacy — came to town for Texas Design Week Dallas, to speak and sign books at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, sponsored by New Orleans Auction Galleries. Fittingly, Dallas Art Fair co-founder John Sughrue served as host, introducing Rothko and speaking of his own appreciation for the iconic color-field painter, while Rothko Chapel executive director David Leslie enlightened the crowd on the newly completed restoration of the Chapel. Then Rothko took to the stage, detailing in a captivating presentation the history of the Chapel and how its architecture evolved from de Menil idea to conception by Philip Johnson, to the final egalitarian structure designed by Howard Barnstone and Eugene Aubry.
