ALL THE WORLD'S A By Candice Cowin. Additional reporting Catherine D. Anspon. Photography Johnny Than and Chris Pierre Bachman. M ore than 300 g u e s t s w e r e ushered behind the red curtains at Windy Knoll near Round Top for "A Night at the Theater" gala benefiting Fayetteville Community Center & Performance Theater. In a taste of what's to come, co-chairs Joan Herring and Wendy Burks treated the audience to champagne, dramatic performances, and the Texas A&M University String Quartet, as well as a seated dinner by Houston-based Ballroom at Bayou Place. Dinner segued into a lively auction that began with the sale of a glass of tap water, which earned a top bid of $1,500. The most coveted lot was a one-week stay at Casa de Las Brisas, a private Puerto Vallarta villa, which netted $50,000 in an even split between two bidders. And no Round Top-area auction is complete without at least one antique — in this case, a mid-18th-century flintlock pistol donated by Compound vendor Axe Antiques. The evening raised more than $500,000, bringing total fundraising efforts thus far to $2 million for this exciting performing arts nonprofit being designed by Heimsath Architects, Austin, with an anticipated budget of $5 million. All gala proceeds fund the renovation and transformation of the historic 1875-era E. J. Knesek Building in Fayetteville's charming town square.
