(Continued from page 18) REPORT SPRING SHOW ROUND TOP BEST IN THE FIELDS AND BEYOND A fter a quick stop at Round Top Mercantile to refuel with its famous made-to- order deli sandwiches, we blazed a trail to Bader Ranch. There we found French vintage and antiques dealers Patrice Watine and Cyril Clerc in Watine's home- and-garden-themed Jardin de France space at the front of the barn. We heard the sound of popping champagne corks and laughter at the back of the barn where a crush of femmes peddling (and buying) everything from high-end vintage clothing (rock legend Rod Stewart's daughter, Ruby Stewart) and jewelry (Kate Swail and Mignonne Gavigan) to hats (Kristin Light of Sissy Light) and handbags (Margaret Boyce and Jamey Gresham of J. Lowery). We turned down a gracious offer of bubbly from Katy Bader while we chatted about what's next for Houston-based Feelgood Group's Casey Barbles, who revealed that her Artisan Market will become a permanent fixture during show times at Bader. Moving on to The Compound, we were grateful for the air-conditioned comfort at The Fickle Barn, aka the White Barn. We also found more of the Watine family at the Jardin de France space inside, including baby Tom, mom Aline, and dad Pierre. At Ex-Cess II, we ran into HGTV's Kim Wolfe (Why the Heck Did I Buy This House?) at Knock on Wood; she said this is always one of her first stops. For her new series, filmed in her hometown of San Antonio, the 2012 Survivor winner comes to the rescue of homeowners who have major buyer's remorse. (The contestant whom Wolfe beat to win the $1 million Survivor prize, Chelsea Meissner, went on to star on a little Bravo reality show called Southern Charm for four seasons.) The former Survivor rivals have forged a design-loving friendship over the years, and they shopped Round Top together this spring. They've even partnered on an episode of Wolfe's HGTV series. I rose with the roosters to catch the Tuesday Tailgate crowd at Marburger Farm. Anxiously awaiting the opening bell were design team Brooke and Steve Giannetti from Ojai, fresh off their book talk at The Halles the evening prior. HGTV star and Round Top regular Grace Mitchell (One of a Kind, Ty Breaker, Design at Your Door) was seen making a purchase within minutes of the opening bell. Shane Brown of Big Daddy's was speed-shopping the show, while hat maker Teressa Foglia and pals Ashley Dudley and Becky DeCosta took a more leisurely approach. Standout booths by Chris Kircheisen in from Florida and Hannah Kachadourian of The Modern Exchange (New York) occupied spaces across the aisle from one another. They are part of a growing contingent of young mid-century modern dealers who are taking up ever larger sections at Marburger Farm. We had encountered Grace Mitchell earlier in the week at Junk Gypsy, where she had a tent set up with fellow HGTV design star Leanne Ford (Home Again with the Fords, Restored by the Fords), filled with vintage finds and custom-made wares. Fans snapped pics, got side-hugs, and chatted with the duo, who made Junk Gypsy their home base for a few days. Jamestown Provisions Co. was selling a line of sundries curated by folk band Jamestown Revival under the tent. Later in the afternoon, the band played a special set for fans. This was Jamestown Revival's first acoustic concert since their early days, said band member Jonathan Clay, who had just undergone shoulder surgery after a charging bull at a friend's ranch forced him to jump a barbwire fence. Thankfully the injury didn't affect his guitar playing, and the tight harmonies he shared with band mate Zach Chance were the finale to a perfect Round Top day.
