T he Dallas Museum of Art threw a series of brilliant parties to celebrate the eagerly anticipated opening of "Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity." An exhibition four years in the making, the DMA's latest jewel offers a rare opportunity to delve into some of the formative inspirations for Louis Cartier, the creative genius behind the French luxury house. With more than 400 objects, the exhibit traces the powerful influence of Islamic art and architecture on Cartier jewels from the early 20th century to the present day. First up, was an Ambassador's Luncheon co- chaired by Christina Jafar and Bela Cooley. "This is an incredible project," said Agustín Arteaga, Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art, to the crowd of sparkling guests. "On top of the science and history behind this exhibit, what truly counts is the beauty of these masterpieces of Islamic art." After the lunch, guests dove into the world of "Cartier and Islamic Art" days ahead of its May 14 opening (through September 18). The following evening, we scurried home to don black tie for VIP cocktails and dinner. Yes, it was back to the DMA for another beautiful soirée. It's always an unexpected treat, donning a natty Tom Ford cummerbund on a school night. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by some terribly handsome Cartier pages. (A photo op is the best way to start an evening …) Cocktail hour saw a crowd of ladies in swan-like gowns chit-chatting about the museum's coup in securing this fabulous exhibition. After admiring and coveting the exquisite jewels for an immeasurable amount of time, we made our way to the museum's concourse to a magically designed dinner tent from Todd Events. Along the way, we caught up with two of our favorite people: Nancy Dedman and Brad Kelly. Nancy shared the story of the white-sequined Carolina Herrera gown she was wearing which she acquired years ago for a white party on Gene Jones' yacht. I's been a go-to for a chic evening on the town ever since. OPENING FÊTES FOR CARTIER Dazzling By Caitlin Clark and Billy Fong. Photography Tamytha Cameron and Simon Luna/The Mamones.
