Interior designer Alexandra Killion has long loved dollhouses and, as mom to daughter Lyla (with another on the way), dreamt up an exciting way to pair that passion with philanthropy. The inaugural La Petite Maison Gala, benefiting A Shelter for Cancer Families, takes place Wednesday, September 7, 7 to 10 pm at The Junior League of Houston — a ticketed cocktail reception where guests bid on eight one-of-a-kind dollhouses by interior designers Julie Dodson, Devon Liedtke, Hallie Henley Sims, Meg Lonergan, Sari Imber, Creative Tonic's Courtnay Tartt Elias, Ashton Taylor, and Killion herself. For the event, Newberry Architecture created two dollhouse designs, one traditional and one modern, and Stetzer Builders served as the builder. Watching the designers' tiny masterpieces take shape via Instagram over the summer has been thrilling — painter Alexis Walter created a demi original abstract artwork for Sim's house, Palm Orleans crafted mini versions of its wallpaper for Lonergan, and Taylor's house has its own petite wine fridge. The designer dollhouses will be on display at tour sponsors including The Annie Café & Bar, River Oaks Dance, Tenenbaum Jewelers, Dimmitt Contemporary Art, Christy Lynn, LeMel Jewelry, Frock Shop, and Relish Restaurant & Bar in advance of the event. A Shelter for Cancer Families is a fitting beneficiary, as it provides a safe, free, home-away-from-home for families seeking cancer treatment in the Texas Medical Center via 15 fully furnished private residences.
