L uxury lodging entrepreneurs John Cone and Greg Fourticq o f R e d A n t l e r Bungalows have expanded their hospitality empire with the purchase of Round Top's first and only local liquor and wine store Pop-A-Top Bottle Shop Too. The Henkel Square package store is undergoing a remodel by Round Top Farmhouses that will see the addition of a tasting room for wine and liquor sampling events, with posh seating, coffee bar, Wi-Fi access, and TV. There's also a new storage space to accommodate an expanded selection of top-shelf liquors and fine wines for wholesale purchase by area restaurants and bars. A new backdoor entrance will make the shop accessible from the parking lot for carting off orders big and small. Cocktail-worthy grab-and- go snacks will be offered in- store through a partnership with Henkel Square neighbor and charcuterie specialists The Little Cheese Shop, and perhaps the most important new offering of all — by Texas standards — is ice. Don't feel like leaving your cozy rental for snacks and drink supplies after a long day of shopping? Delivery service is available for orders of $100 or more. Fourticq and Cone are in the process of rebranding the store as Round Top Liquor Shop. A grand opening with all its new of ferings is expected by mid-November. Pop-A-Top will remain open during the remodel from 11 am – 7 pm Thursday to Saturday (Tuesday to Saturday, post-remodel). Follow the progress on Instagram @popatopbottleshoptoo. L ela Rose may be best known for her impossibly romantic fashion and bridal labels, but she's a veteran of stylish entertaining, from her favorite vacation retreat in Jackson Hole to her home base in New York City and her family's Texas ranch (her parents are Dallas' Deedie Rose and the late Rusty Rose). Rose has created bonfire parties, bird-watching excursions, and wildflower-gathering expeditions, all crafted with imaginative table settings, flowers, and food. In her second book, Fresh Air Affairs: Entertaining with Style in the Great Outdoors (Rizzoli, March 2023), she riffs on these favorite alfresco landscapes with decor, food, and drink exquisitely photographed by Tara Sgroi. WHEN, WHERE Lela Rose will speak and sign her book Monday, October 23, 5 to 6:30 pm in the main pavilion at The Halles. Lela Rose Ranch Collection pops up at The Halles Saturday – Tuesday, October 21 – 24. Please RSVP to rsvp@papercitymag.com for the talk and book signing. Field Notes from Lela • For larger parties, begin corralling ideas on your Pinterest boards six to eight weeks in advance. • Prep early so you're not a stressed-out host. • Go the extra mile — use your creativity to think of a few tiny details that they'll always remember. • Greet guests with a signature cocktail — and a smile! • Grab a glass of tequila and take a big chill pill — because with any event, things can and will go wrong. Expect it. It's part of the fun. LELA ROSE TALK AND BOOK SIGNING IN ROUND TOP JORDAN GEIBEL ROUND ABOUT ROUND TOP POP-A-TOP UNCORKS BIG CHANGES QUEEN: ENTERTAINING Lela Rose John Cone Greg Fourticq W hen a set of 19th-century cast- iron French lampposts made its way to town during the antiques show four years ago via Compound dealer Alisanne Frew of Alisanne Wonderland, Round Top Mayor Mark Massey envisioned them as part of the town's landscape. His vision became a reality this fall when he gifted the lampposts to the town. The 39 refurbished fixtures are now sited at key points throughout Round Top proper, providing an anchor for street signs, seasonal decorations, and directional signage to shopping venues and other landmarks. "They were sourced from a French village that was replacing all of its lampposts," says Massey, who notes that their installation is part of a larger town beautification and wayfinding push. While the posts will not be electrified due to Round Top's commitment to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Dark Skies Initiative, they might be outfitted with solar power down the road.
