P aul Michael's Market Hill has doubled its retail with the addition of a new building adjacent to the original Market Hill, now open for the Fall 2023 Round Top Antiques + Design Show. The new 125,000-square-foot space is a mirror image of the original Market Hill structure with one major change: The breezeways in the new building are glassed in and can be closed off during uncooperative weather. All retail spaces in the new building are leased for the fall show. Longtime Market Hill vendors Vincent Peach and Susan Horne Antiques have moved to the new building, joining M. Naeve, Shabby Slips, Moxie Interiors, Sacred Heart Antiques, Architect's Daughter, Architectural Ar tifacts, Provence Antiques, The Select Pick, Tiffany Farha Designs, Urban Vintage, and Atlanta Fine Rugs. Market Hill, 1542 N. Texas Hwy. 237, Round Top. S mall-town living and chic nights out don't always go hand in hand, but friends and entrepreneurs Sherry Tucker and Christine McBride are changing the paradigm in their hometown of Columbus, Texas. Meet Magnolia Society, a new restaurant and social club in historic downtown Columbus about 25 minutes from Round Top. Although the pair left the area for several years after high school to pursue their dreams in bigger cities, they recently moved back to the town of 3,600 to be near family. Noting an exceptionally large void in food and wine options, they envisioned a cocktail lounge with a great menu, a members-only social club with live entertainment, and events such as wine tastings. They purchased the historic Hotel Colorado in the center of town and embarked on an eight- month renovation of the building with Five Oak Construction, while Houston designer Julie McGarr designed the interiors. An outdoor patio space was also added. Tucker and McBride brought on chef Steven Konarik who got his start at Houston-based catering companies A Fare Extraordinaire and Tony's at Home before taking the helm as head chef of his own Austin-based catering firm, Kurant Events. His menu for Magnolia Society veers towards comfort-food favorites such as crispy truffle fries with black peppercorn mayo; charcuterie with artisan cheeses, bresaola, prosciutto, and spicy coppa; a standout burger; pizzas such as The Sicilian with Italian sausage, pepperoni, soppressata, and mozzarella; and entrees such as braised short ribs and Southern fried shrimp with fries and smoked jalapeƱo tartar sauce. Magnolia Society opened to strong reviews this summer, and memberships to The Parlor social club immediately sold out. Live music is scheduled to perform weekly beginning this fall.
