M ake plans to celebrate the holidays in Round Top this season. Special events are scheduled for each weekend in December leading up to Christmas Day and beyond, and the year-round shops, restaurants, and bars are open beginning Wednesday or Thursday through Sunday every weekend … The holiday fun begins Saturday, December 2, 8 am, with Breakfast with Santa at Royers Café. Santa will pose for photos following a country breakfast of waffles, bacon, sausage, and eggs with hot chocolate and coffee. Get tickets at royerscafe. com … Afterwards, shop Round Top's year-round retail stores, beginning at 10 am Saturday, December 2. All shops, restaurants, and bars in Henkel Square, Round Top Village, Rolland Square, and Minden Square will be open throughout the holiday season. A pair of grand openings took place just before the 2023 Fall Round Top Antiques & Design Show. Market Hill 2 owner Paul Michael flung open the antique doors to the newly constructed building with a late-night sip- and-shop event. Wine, cocktails, and charcuterie toasted the launch of the 125,000-square-foot venue space, which includes a centrally located full bar. A dozen dealers have taken up residence, each with its own climate-controlled space: Susan Horne Antiques, Paul Michael Company, Architectural Artifacts (including pieces from Amighini Architectural), M. Naeve, Tiffany Farha Design, Urban Vintage, Shabby Slips, Atlanta Fine Rugs, Architect's Daughter, Moxie Interiors, Provence Antiques, and Garcia Couture. Find Market Hill 2 at 1542 Texas 237 North in Round Top, directly across from the original Market Hill structure — which welcomes new dealers Heja Home, DinnerParty Antiques, Liesel Farm Antiques, and Robert Massello Antiques. Just down the road, Kemo Sabe celebrated its opening day at Henkel Square, just before the fall show. The western fashion retailer welcomed shoppers into its newly built two-story retail space stocked with the beloved Grit line of hats, boots and buckles (worn by Jeff Bezos, Beyoncé, Orlando Bloom), all handmade in Texas. Grit hats are made at the company's Hat Ranch in Gainesville; boots are constructed at the company's new El Paso boot factory. Kemo Sabe also stocks custom boots, knives, vintage jewelry, and Western wear and showcases local Round Top artisans. Hat customization is available in the second-floor hat bar. Candice Cowin on December 2, holiday activities begin at 3 pm in Round Top's town square, followed by the Round Top Lighted Christmas Parade, which begins at 6:45 pm, rain or shine. To be a part of the parade, register with the Round Top Chamber at exploreroundtop.com … On Saturday, December 9, Round Top Festival Institute presents Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Ballet. Student dancers with Ovation Ballet Company perform the holiday classic for the 14th season at Festival Hill's concert hall, beginning at 4 pm. This is the one and only performance of the season; tickets at festivalhill.org … Festival Hill will also host the Blinn College Wind Symphony and Choir for a Sounds of the Season Concert Friday, December 15, 7 pm. Tickets are $10 at blinnbrenham.ludus.com … Following dinner and the concert, spend the night at one of Round Top's world-class lodgings (see the full list at roundtop.com/the-round-top-guide) and attend the Round Top Family Library's Christmas Extravaganza Saturday, December 16, beginning at 10 am, with pictures with Santa, game booths, and live holiday music by Balleen Keen until 2 pm. Candice Cowin ROUND ROUND ABOUT TOP HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS IN ROUND TOP THE WONDERS OF MARKET HILL 2 AND KEMO SABE R ed & White Gallery in Fayetteville begins 2024 with a debut for Brenham- based talent Stephen Henry. Geography has played a central role in the artist's life, nurturing his interest in plein-air painting. Raised outside of Dallas as a boy, he moved to small-town Bowie, Texas, at the edge of the plains (formerly Comanche territory) at age 11. As an adult, Henry relocated to live amidst the majestic terrain of Northern Utah before returning to Texas. The son of a rodeo cowboy turned Western painter, Henry brings his take on the modern West and the contemporary cowboy's place within it to his solo exhibition, "Journeys," at Red & White.
