PARIS DÉCO OFF 2024 EXOTICISM P aris in January is the inspiring setting for Paris Déco Off, the annual international preview of luxury fabrics and wallcovering where 190 companies with hot-off-the-loom textiles unfurl their creations in boutique showrooms for invited designers and architects. This year's 14th incarnation inspired us with nonstop beauty — maximalist pattern, cosmopolitan creativity, craft, and unleashed artistry. It was a voyage of discovery. At the Saint-Germain showroom of trend leader Pierre Frey, designers admired patterns of Persian landscapes, Silk Road colors, painterly Provençal visions, and ancient motifs of Samarkand. At de Gournay, walls shimmered with lush jungles of Amazonia. For Élitis, the draws were hippie/psychedelic '70s prints in trippy, shocking pink and acid green, offering a late afternoon jolt. Iksel portrayed wallscapes of exquisite Constantinople and finely detailed Safavid miniatures. Eighteenth-century court life in Japan was portrayed in exquisite detail on linen at Pierre Frey. Vivid Imperial Chinese robe patterns on shimmering silks felt celebratory in the Jim Thompson a t e l i e r. M o g h u l - e r a embroideries from India inspired sparkling jewel tones at Rubelli. Marie Antoinette-style trims, vivid beading, tassels, and embellishments by Timothy Corrigan dazzled at Samuel & Sons.
