The kitchen of the National Palace of Sintra, the oldest palace in Portugal, dating back to the Middle Ages. King João I had the enormous kitchen built with the capacity to serve hundreds of people. Its two conical chimneys, 33 meters tall, have become an icon of Sintra. On display are 19th-century kitchenware, an 18th-century hot plate, roasting spits, and a Martaban jar from the Ming dynasty. Above the archway is the coat of arms of Queen Maria Pia, the last queen to live in the Palace.
