A quarter century has passed since Houston Center for Contemporary Craft unveiled — an ambitious art space sparked by co-founder Sara Morgan's impetus to find a studio and build community for her daughter, artist Catherine Morgan, a then-recent grad of Kansas City Art Institute. The public opening took place in the Museum District on September 22, 2001, during the fragile days after 9/11 and a mere three months after Tropical Storm Allison devastated parts of the city. Anspon Seeing Silver at Craft Center "Defining Craft I: Collecting for the New Millennium," a touring exhibit organized by NYC's American Craft Museum (now the Museum of Arts and Design). HCCC celebrates this silver anniversary with an exhibition appropriately entitled "A Material Inheritance." Co-organized by HCCC curator and exhibitions director Sarah Darro and Windgate curatorial fellow Zaynab Hilal, the show is spun around six major players in the national and international craft movement.
