ROUND ABOUT ROUND TOP T he PaperCity Designer Dinner at The Halles in Round Top is Monday, October 26, 6 to 9 pm, with special guest designer Alfredo Paredes. Paredes spent 33 years crafting environments, experiences, and products at Ralph Lauren, and D avid Lewis, co-owner of the venerable Houston- based Lewis & Maese Antiques & Auctions, and Amir Mireskandari, have launched a two-year, $4 million improvement and expansion project at Oakbones in Round Top. The rustic lodge and events center originally established by the late Cisco Pinedo is being recreated in the character of Texas dance halls, countryside inns and artist compounds, with expanded accommodations, wellness amenities, and gathering spaces, with architect Todd Blitzer of Houston-based Mirador Group. "The majority of the work is taking place between the antiques shows," Lewis says; work on the two-phase project began immediately after closing on the purchase of Oakbones this past spring. Phase one entails a refresh of F ashion designer and fairy godmother of fringe Pat Dahnke has set up shop in the Henkel Square space formerly occupied by Humble Donkey Studio, alongside Western vintage curator Yalonda Yo of House of Yo. The move to Henkel Square is a full-circle moment for Dahnke, who occupied a retail space there in the 1980s. More recently, Dahnke's designs have been a centerpiece at The 550 Market's Rockabilly Baroness — wowing the crowds at the venue's seasonal fashion shows and earning a place in the wardrobes of country music superstars Lainey Wilson and Tanya Tucker. "I create romantic, feminine clothes for cowgirls," says Dahnke, who lives in Houston and is an avid horsewoman. "These are not the kind of clothes a cowgirl wears to muck stalls." Dahnke's Western wear is crafted by hand at the designer's Waller, Texas, ranch — vests, pants, collars, and skirts are made with skins, hides, furs, and feathers, including her ragged-edge, bias-cut mini-skirts made with deerskin and ever-popular ragged skin belts with knee-length fringe. Also in store are Western boots from Willow Boots, leather jackets from Eleven11, and handmade bolo ties by Kelly Anzilotti of Kelly Kathleen Designs. Home objects debut this fall — deerskin bedding and wall hangings, fur blankets, hide shawls, and tabletop. Open Thursday through Sunday. The existing 100-seat restaurant is being rebuilt, to be helmed by Houston- based chef and James Beard finalist Bryan Caswell (Reef, Little Bigs, El Real Tex-Mex) and Houston's Latuli restaurant. Kenworthy and her team have created a day of antiquing, cocktails in the reclaimed Airstream with Homeworthy hosts Ruth McKeaney and Jenn Hill, and a private dinner hosted by Kenworthy at Red Antler Bungalows.
