Best wishes, you're engaged! When you walk down the aisle, who do you envision wearing? I might be biased, but Oscar de la Renta truly makes the most beautiful wedding gowns. That said, I am determined to try on wedding dresses without looking at the label and let my emotions choose the dress. Perhaps a slinky satin embellished dress, but I can't help but be drawn to a more delicate-lace, largerthan-life gown. How did you and your We met at a concert. I poked him on the shoulder and asked him to take a picture of my friends and me. He snapped some photos and then introduced himself. His name is Kevin Kushner. Your fashion genealogy? My great-grandfather, Tobias Sakowitz, started the first Sakowitz store in 1902. My father, Robert Sakowitz, ran the store as chairman and CEO until 1990. He's now a consultant to retail and other industries at Hazak Corporation. My mother is Laura Sakowitz Sweeney, a Realtor with John Daugherty and a member of Houston Best Dressed. My aunt, Lynn Wyatt, is an international fashion icon and a friend to many designers, and my sister, Noelle Sakowitz, is a textiles and embroidery designer with Oscar de la Renta. I have the music taste of a 13-year-old girl. My iPod is full of Gaga, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift. My fiancé is from New Orleans and has gotten me into the city's music talent, like the Soul Rebels, Rebirth and Trombone Shorty. Exercise … I run Memorial Park or Hermann Park and mix in Pilates at Hardcore Pilates whenever I get a chance. As a vegetarian what do you consider the best vegetarian meal in Houston? Hands down, Pondicheri's Meatless Mondays. What do you crave? I could eat breakfast any time of day. Avalon Diner is my favorite spot. I understand you're one who's up for adventure Where to next? I would love to go on an African photographic safari. Like me, you juggle two jobs — in your case, law and this retail launch. How do you strike a balance? I spend all day focused on my legal career and every extra second growing my passion project. I enjoy doing the two completely different endeavors and have the team and support from my fiancé, friends and family to make it work. I think juggling multiple responsibilities is a true talent of women, and I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to do both. B eautiful, brainy and with the world at her Louboutin-clad feet, 26-year-old Brittany Sakowitz (yes, of the Sakowitz clan) is carrying on her family's storied fashion tradition by launching a very personal take on retail. The lawyer and budding entrepreneur has conjured a new angle on stylish dress rentals — and opens both a retail location and a Web site for New For The Night this month. Curious about how it all started and what inspires this Kinkaid/LSU/UH grad to go retail, Laurann Claridge sat down to discover what's unfolding in her pretty world. I'm loyal to Neiman's and shopbop.com, but love a good steal at Zara and topshop.com. What are you reading? I spend most of my time reading contracts and drafting agreements for the firm [Baker Hostetler], so pleasure reading doesn't happen often. The Steve Jobs biography is at the top of my list. Last year, I went to Laos with one of my best girlfriends. In the mornings, we would give alms to the monks and spend the day learning about each town, riding elephants and tasting the local cuisine. I am fascinated with Laos. What inspired you to launch newforthenight.com? Growing up, my sisters Lexi, Noelle and I always borrowed each other's clothes. After years of bickering about items disappearing from each other's closets, we embraced the idea of a collective closet. Newforthenight.com emerged out of the concept that women want to look and feel beautiful in something new, but not necessarily commit to the retail price tag. Our generation tends to be more visible, showcasing their style through social media and blogs, and bounce from event to event. Newforthenight.com offers cocktail dresses and gowns from many designers so you can experiment with your style and wear something new every time at a fraction of the cost of buying. Marchesa, Robert Rodriguez, Joie and Catherine Deane. I'm classic and feminine, but with a contemporary twist. Is there an accessory you long to make your own? A custom pair of monogrammed cowboy boots. Well, that and the entire Christian Louboutin collection.
