MARK HIEBERT Mail Call at Art on the Avenue Mary Lawler, honoree Dean Ruck L ocal celebrities truly went postal for Avenue CDC's annual Art on the Avenue at Winter Street Studios. Some of Houston's biggest names — including Mayor Annise Parker, Ed Gonzalez, and Sheriff Adrian Garcia — custom-designed mailboxes to be auctioned off alongside unique works by more than 300 artists. Parker (who also served as honorary chair) and Dean Ruck also received the prestigious Knobbie Award for their hard work toward Avenue CDC's cause: providing affordable housing in Houston's Washington Avenue and Near Northside neighborhoods. Giving their stamp of approval: artists Al Souza, Troy Woods, Victor Rojas, Tami Merrick, and Sandi Seltzer Bryant; Avenue CDC executive director Mary Lawler and board prez Robert Fiederlein; Preview Party chair Chris Silkwood; and guests Denise Partridge, Karen Lantz, Albert Calderon, and Alexia Rivera; and Winter Street's owner Jon Deal and wife Katie.
