AUGUST | PAGE 34 | 2014 Re-entrée — a French term used to describe re-entering the social and cultural season after summer sojourns. PaperCity editors and some of our favorite compatriots have compiled a compendium of where to be and what to see, acquire, eat, read and admire throughout the season — all the compelling reasons you'll need to get dressed and go out. CHIC IS COMING! Karl Lagerfeld coming to Dallas! RE-ENTRÉE TO FALL I adore Net-a-Porter, so I'm thrilled with the newly launched Net- a-Sporter where you can shop for cute tennis outfits and smart equestrian gear all in one place. What a great excuse to get back in shape. net-a-porter.com/sport. Francine Ballard KOONS crazy. A gargantuan painting of pastry, Play-Doh epically scaled in bronze and porn-star-and- artist mating rituals depicted in canvas or marble are some of the succulent offerings — all super-sized — in the Whitney Museum of American Art's big blow-out retrospective for Jeff Koons (through October 19). Catch it in Manhattan, with an accompanying 50,000-blossom topiary installed at Rockefeller Center (through September 12). Catherine D. Anspon PARIS IN THE FALL. The much-awaited 2014 Biennale des Antiquaires, directed by an honorary committee that includes Karl Lagerfeld, Jacques Grange and Lapo Elkann, runs September 10 through 21 at the Grand Palais in Paris. Must-see antiques dealers' wares include Steinitz and Didier Aaron. But for dazzle and spark, I love the displays of spectacular and rare fine jewelry by Bulgari, Chanel, Dior, Piaget and Alexandre Reza. People-watching at the VIP opening night leaps right off the social pages, with royals, fashion designers, film stars, artists and top models posing and every top international decorator making an appearance with bejeweled clients in tow. sna-france.com. Halloween at Amanyara resort in the Turks and Caicos is like a spiritual boot-camp hotel. What better time than the Day of the Dead to wake up your karma and get focused? amanresorts.com. Greg Fourticq Jr. OBJECT OF MY DESIRE. Some of my favorite finds from Maison & Objet in Paris — especially the French-made blown-glass tables and stools from Haymann — arrive at Found. Aaron Rambo Haymann Duo tables by Lucie Koldova and Dan Yeffet IT TAKES TWO. Houston welcomes the British duo behind Marchesa, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, for Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation's annual Catwalk for a Cure, Thursday, November 6, 7 pm. The highly anticipated night of fashion and philanthropy is chaired by Lindley and Jason Arnoldy and Francine and Westy Ballard, with sponsor Saks Fifth Avenue and PaperCity as media sponsor. Tables start at $5,000, with a limited number of individual tickets for $350 — but stake your claim soon, as tickets never last long. Megan Pruitt Winder A WIDE NET. PHOTO FINISH. IN THE SPIRIT. S ince last November, when I met famed fashion photographer Mario Testino at his New York exhibition opening with Dallas Contemporary executive director Peter Doroshenko, I've waited for this show. Testino will be in Dallas for the invitation-only opening night of "Alta Moda by Mario Testino," held the evening before the public exhibition opening (September 21 – December 21). The Dallas Contemporary's white-wall gallery space will transform into a black-, pink- and red-walled backdrop for the oversized Peruvian portraits — a nod to Testino's heritage. dallascontemporary.org. A gray felt fedora from Maison Michel Paris will serve as a weekend staple of my wardrobe. michel-paris.com. Brooke Hortenstine NEW HOTELS. W hether it's a far-flung holiday or a hop, skip and jump escape for a couple of nights, I'm up for traveling anytime. On my list are two stunning new hotels. First is Point Yamu by COMO in Phuket, Thailand. COMO plays out peaceful, zen, calm surrounds better than many, and this new property looks worthy of the long flight. Closer to home, Zero George Street in Charleston is a neat concept: The 18- room property, built within five restored townhouses, comes with its own low- country cooking school and scenic Southern veranda. Laurann Claridge Point Yamu in Phuket Zero George Street in Charleston Zero George Street in Charleston In recent months, spin studios in Paris and New York are conducting classes in petite pools accommodating 12 or so students. Utilizing special stationary bikes immune to water and pedals with toe cages to prevent slippage, not only is the evolved exercise low impact but it maximizes resistance as well. Might there be a burgeoning exercise cult on the horizon for Fall 2014? Seth Vaughan Keren Craig Georgina Chapman One ethereal evening. The season's social epicenter is always incontestably the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's Grand Gala Ball. The unerring, elegant and erudite Frances Marzio, curator of The Glassell Collections and the Antiquities department and wife of late MFAH director Peter Marzio, chairs this year's fête, titled "Four Seasons," which takes its motif from the hypnotic nature-infused videos of Jennifer Steinkamp. Saturday, October 18, at MFAH Law Building; tickets from $750, tables from $10,000; 713.639.7523 or grandgalaball@mfah.org.
