And so they did for Bayou Bend's annual Garden Party, chaired by Jeanie Kilroy Wilson and Wally Wilson. Despite intermittent spring showers, almost 500 guests gathered for an evening that included cocktails in the formal gardens and throughout the first floor of the John F. Staub-designed Hogg home; a seated supper by City Kitchen on the south lawn beneath a tent (care of McDugald-Steele, with a botanical bounty brought in by Scott McCool's In Bloom Inc.); and dancing to the sounds of David Caceres. An anonymous donor's decision to silently pitch in $46,000 towards the museum-house's operating budget brought the evening's earnings near three quarters of a million dollars — doubtlessly pleasing both Bayou Bend director Bonnie Campbell and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston director Gary Tinterow. Dogwood denizens and camellia connoisseurs: MFAH board president Rich Kinder with wife Nancy, Juanita and Jack Markwalter, Vivien and Scott Caven, Van Gogh museum director Axel Rüger, Jessica Phifer, Michelle and Frank Hevrdejs, Rolanette and Berdon Lawrence, Bobbie and John Nau, Lacey and Matthew Goossen, Les Ballard, Laurie and Reed Morian, Ann and John Bookout, Leslie and Brad Bucher, Carol and Michael Linn, Martha Katherine Long and Sean Wade, Karol and Paul Barnhart, Colleen and John Kotts, Sharyn and Jim Weaver, and Anne and Charles Duncan. In the weeks that followed, the MFAH's other regal repository of decorative arts, Rienzi (once home to the late Carroll Sterling Masterson and Harris Masterson III), played host to a house party. Chairmen Fran Fauntleroy, Lara and Parker Fauntleroy, Shelley and Mitch Cox, and Glenda Grainger orchestrated the evening, which began with cocktails on the motor court of the Staub-designed home with Palladian overtones. Guests enjoyed their boissons beneath a tent erected for the evening, abundantly adorned with spectacular planters filled with foxglove and other botanicals, all imagined by architect David Samuelson and florist Jeff Bradley. Guests ambled through the home's central vestibule before enjoying a buffet dinner by Culinaire set amidst the terraced gardens and pool. Rienzi revelers: Tommy and Isla Reckling, Sue Trammell Whitfield, Christiana and Luke McConn, Elise and James Reckling, Libbie Masterson, Christopher Gardner, Betty and Stephen Newton, Carroll Goodman, Ann and Leslie Doggett, Katherine and Bill Phelps, Pat Breen, and Muffet Blake.
