Renée Rouleau Skin Care Spa in Plano opened in 1996 [One Arts Plaza opened 2007]. It was the beginning of the day-spa trend, and I felt I needed to tap into this new phenomenon and offer many services to cast a wider net since I was literally starting from scratch. Despite being very successful, after five years, I opted out of the day-spa concept and changed to offering only skincare treatments, as day spas were popping up on every street corner. I saw the trend going towards exclusivity and niche and felt that I should focus on my true passion (skincare). THE TRAVELING ROULEAUS. I'm the youngest of four children. By the time I graduated high school, I had been in seven different schools. It's hard to be the "new kid," but it taught me how to adapt in new surroundings and be open to change. I didn't like it at the time, but I'm grateful for the journey and all the people I've met along the way. I've noticed that I often crave change, and it's likely because of my upbringing. Whether it's remodeling our house, changing my hair color or launching new packaging for my skincare line, I seek reinvention and get energy from it. I also happen to be in an industry that is ever-changing, so it's a perfect mix. LEARNING TO JUGGLE KNIVES. Being the youngest child made me fearless. I wasn't micromanaged by my parents and had a fair amount of freedom to make mistakes and learn valuable lessons. I once heard my mom say, "By the fourth child, you let them juggle knives." Being an entrepreneur and owning your own company is a lot like juggling knives. I think if I were the firstborn, I may have been more cautious, and my life would be very different. JE M'APPELLE … Despite being married to someone from France, Rouleau is actually my maiden name. My father's side of the family is French Canadian. So I have a French married name, Oger, and a French maiden name. Most people think Rouleau is my husband's name. HOME SWEET HOME. My husband Florian [he's company COO] and I live on 40 acres in Farmersville, Texas. We've lived here for 14 years. We both spent time in our childhoods in the country and were drawn to its beauty as well as the peace and quiet. What's unique about our property is the number of trees — a thick forest surrounds us, so it's very private and beautiful. There's a lot of wildlife including deer, so it's fun to see what's going to pop out of the woods. Basking in the glow of a 1967 El Camino Chevrolet from Florian's collection of classic cars.
