JULY | PAGE 10 | 2015 ANNE LEE PHILLIPS GETS THE SCOOP FROM HUSBAND MATTHEW. PHOTOGRAPHY DANIEL ORTIZ, GEORGE HIXSON, MATTHEW PHILLIPS. Forget mahogany libraries and leather chesterfields. At The Menil Collection's Men of Menil gentlemen's evening, it was all about glazed concrete floors and white walls exhibiting a Dan Flavin neon-light installation. The stark setting, combined with 140 tuxedo-clad gents, all eyes on professional table-tennis players demonstrating their sport at Richmond Hall, was straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Chairs Russell Hawkins, Ransom Lummis, Michael Mithoff, and Shannon Sasser brought in an impressive roster of decorated table tennis (please don't call it Ping-Pong) champions, including David Zhuang, Eric Owens, and former Olympians Mark Hazinski and Jim Butler. As emcee, national team coach and trainer Scott Preiss gave a briefing on the sport's history, etiquette and technical elements. After the display matches, he called for an audience volunteer; James Stewart, the son of Menil board member Bill Stewart, gamely participated and was jokingly handed an extra-large paddle. The matches were bookended by a seated dinner from Jackson and Company (rack of lamb) and classic cigars and brandy in a tent out front — the perfect nightcap to an evening that raised more than $340,000 for The Campaign for the Menil. Reeling from the topspins: Paul Hobby, Bill Cannady, Marshal Lightman, Mark Wawro, Steven Looke, David Anderson, Bob Pulitzer, Stephen Birnbaum, and Stewart Feldman. Paul Hobby, Edward Griffin, Jack Moriniere Mac Dunwoody, Dan Gilbane Paul Chapman Bill Cannady Marshal Lightman DEE OCLEPPO AND TOMMY HILFIGER AT SAKS Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger — wife of Tommy Hilfiger, former model and world traveler — is all about versatile luxury. Therefore, her collection of handbags, which was launched at her husband's urging, includes reversible covers to change up one's look. The handbags served as swoon-worthy centerpieces for an intimate surf-and-turf seated dinner for 25 in a first-floor gallery at Saks Fifth Avenue, where we overheard Tommy imparting monogramming advice to a client customizing a bag: "Go with navy. It's classic." Dining with the designers: Saks GM Bobby Dees and wife Wezy, and Sylvia Forsythe; customers Anne Carl, Laura Bhatia, Sissy Roberts, Terry Chalmers, and Robin Wombwell and daughter Burkley Wombwell. ETHAN K AT LUCINDA LOYA'S For Ethan Koh, luxury bags were practically his birthright: His great-grandfather started a family tannery, which is now majority-owned by LVMH. After spending time in Tuscany as well as a few formative years in London studying fashion and interning for Hermès and Louis Vuitton, he launched his Ethan K collection. The bags are fashioned from brightly colored crocodile skins with jewels, inspired by the vivid imagery of his home country of Singapore. Twenty VICs (Very Important Customers) were treated to an A Fare Extraordinaire-catered luncheon with Koh and Saks Fifth Avenue's Bobby Dees and Sylvia Forsythe at interior designer Lucinda Loya's beautiful Memorial home, including Alice Womble, Jenee Stefanakis, Amy Lee, Elizabeth Petersen, and Isra Shah.
